Biological control and ecology of Alligator Weed
Summary
This project builds on the outcomes of an NHT-funded project (2003-06) to continue host testing of insects for the biological control of Alligator weed and to continue ecological studies to underpin better management of the weed in Australia.
Aims
This project continues the host testing of insects for the biological control of alligator weed and continues ecological studies to underpin development of better management strategies for the weed in Australia. We currently have a ranked list of potential agents and will continue the testing, apply for permits to release, and potentially release host specific insects within the timeframe of this project. Ecological studies will include comparing habitats of the native and introduced ranges to identify the most promising biological control agents and studying factors that allow alligator weed to outcompete desired vegetation in Australia.
Background
This project follows on from a NHT-funded project (2003-06).
